Saw It. Pinned It. Did It.

Its Thursday... you know what that means!  Ok, maybe not... so I'll tell you :)  Time for another Saw It.  Pinned It.  Did It.  post.

Since we are officially in November, it is totally legit to start thinking about CHRISTMAS!  I can finally share my No Sew Ruffled Tree Skirt!  I made it last year (way before this blog was even a twinkle in our eyes), but I did take pictures (but not as many as if I knew I'd be blogging it)!  Last Fall, I saw this pin for a new sew ruffled tree skirt.  I didn't own my sewing machine yet, so new sew was very appealing!  It was super easy, you can match your decor, and and its way cute!

Here's what you need:
1 white sheet ($ Tree, Wal Mart, think cheap)
3 (or more) colors of fabric (I think I had 3 yards each...which was MORE than enough)
---1 Circular Piece of Fabric (in whatever one of you colors you want)
---Fabric Strips (you'll cut these out of your fabric choices)
Permanent Spray Adhesive
Hot Glue/Gun

Here's what to do:
- Make your fabric strips.  I cut them about 2.5" or 3" wide.  I cut them the long length of the fabric
-Cut your sheet in the circumference you want for your skirt.  Cut the slit and hole for your tree base at this time.
- I knew I wasn't going to ruffle enough to fill the whole skirt, so I used a piece a fabric to cover the white.  Cut it circular as well and use spray adhesive to attach.  You'll see in the picture how it looks.
- Now you'll start ruffling!  Start on the outside of your skirt so your ruffles will overlap.  Work in increments of about 4" - 5".  Place a strip of hot glue down, attach the end of a fabric strip, and start pinching it to make ruffle.  You'll pinch the fabric together and hot glue will squeeze in between.  Be careful, though!  I burned myself a few times :)
Here is the white sheet and fabric attached.  I've begun the first ruffle as well.
-Ruffle all the way around with your first color.
First ruffle COMPLETE
See how cute this is going to be?!
-Start ruffling with your next color.  You'll want to start close enough to your first fabric that the second fabric will overlap the first.
Oooohhh Aaahhhh
-Just keep ruffling until you fill your white space!

Honestly - Isn't this the cutest tree skirt ever?!  I made add some more layers of ruffles this year... but we'll see how much time I have!  I mean Christmas is ALMOST here! :)

I hadn't decorated the tree yet, but you get the gist! Amazing! :)

Hope you enjoy!  Let us know if you try this fun project!

  3. Ummm this is SO cute!! I actually went to Hob Lob today to get stuff to make a ruffled linen one but that one I was following called for some type of "painters canvas" to use as the base (like your sheet). It was like $65 so I said screw it but since you can't see it anyways, I just might need to go get me a sheet!! This is PERFECT and just what I was looking for! Don't be surprised if you find this on pinterest! :)

    Thanks for linking up girl!!

  4. I love this!! I made one last year too, and even though I had my design blog going I never managed to take pictures. We used it for our auction tree so its long gone and I need to make a new one to keep for myself this year!
