Thankful Thursday: A House Hunting Lesson
I'm feeling very thankful today so I'm making today Thankful Thursday! Buying a house has been such an interesting experience. We have been extremely fortunate to have a great group of people to work with. However, in the midst of looking at houses, signing tons of paperwork, and writing more checks than I've ever written, I've learned a valuable lesson.
It's so easy to get caught up in stainless steel appliances, huge garden tubs, and fancy granite countertops. I found myself having very materialistic thoughts at the beginning of the process and worrying too much about what other people would think. In the end though, all of the stuff I was focusing on doesn't really matter. Dustin and I are so fortunate to even have the opportunity to buy a house at this point in our lives. We have a great yard, an amazing back porch, a nice kitchen and tons of room. This is the house where we'll get our first dog together, host holidays, have fun parties, and hopefully where we'll raise our first child. As a 25 and 27 year old pair of newlyweds, I say we're doing pretty good. What are you thankful for today??

It's funny, I read this and the first thing I thought was "granite countertops ... I want those"! Ha. You are so right ... it's easy to get caught up in that stuff. But after 5 years of home improvements, I can honestly say that I love our home because it's "home". Ok, so I really want granite countertops too. ;)
ReplyDeleteExactly...we're excited to make it our own :). Thanks for your comment. Looks like you've been busy with home improvements too!
DeleteCongrats on the new house! It sounds like you have a great head on your shoulders going in to such an exciting time of your life! Enjoy! Have a great day!
